LipoStructure® Repairs Damaged Skin
The effect of grafted fat on surrounding tissues:
Dr. Sydney Coleman has shown that fat grafts using his technique, LipoStructure®, also known as Structural Fat Grafting, can fill large and small soft tissue defects of the face and body with every indication of permanence. However, he reported in the September 2006 issue of the Journal of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery that fat grafts have other potential attributes which we are just beginning to realize. Grafted fat affects the tissue into which it is placed in many ways for the life of the patient. It can improve the quality of aged and scarred skin, heal radiation damage, treat chronic ulcers and has many other uses. The focus of the future should be research to explain and expand upon our clinical successes.
Possible explanations for progressive healing of irradiated, sun damaged and scarred skin after structural fat grafting:

- Repair cells in grafted fat may be directly repairing damaged skin
- Repair cells can build new blood vessels and provide nutrition to tissues
- Adult fat cells may transform into repair cells also.

- Fat tissue also can release growth factors, hormones, etc.
